Oscar London dress

Our Sall (second from right) looking faulous, with friends (and future Oscar london customers?)

My mother says ‘keeping it simple is best’ and my latest find – oscarlondon.com – certainly proves her point.  It’s a clothing website which  recently came to my rescue when I was stuck without a versatile dress that I could wear to five (yes, five!) different weddings this summer, and only four days to go until the first one.  Oscar London sells three styles of maxi dress (with each style in three different colours), and five styles of t-shirts – that’s it!  By keeping their range simple, they are able to focus on the quality of their clothes and, in their words, they provide the ‘ultimate in flattering and wearable clothing for the modern woman’.  The dress I bought was spot on for last weekend’s wedding and I received lots of compliments from other guests (and even the bride!).

This simple approach to a business – a small-ish selection of great products, good communication of your offering plus some powerful brand advocates – deserves to succeed.  It’s also a pretty good lesson in PR and its measureability; I was told about the brand, I bought into it and then proceeded to tell numerous people how great it is (and, importantly, the product stood up to scrutiny).
