Inspirations from childhood

Monday, November 29th, 2010

If I had to choose something that I simply HAD to do before I’m (ahem) 40, then spending an evening up close and personal with some of Britain’s best-loved and acclaimed actors would definitely make the list.  So, you can imagine my utter delight to receive an invitation to just that at the Almeida Theatre, London, on an extraordinarily cold Sunday evening, courtesy of sponsor Courvoisier.  Entitled An Evening With the Stars and a fundraising event in support of the magnificent charity Friendship Works, the evening was hosted by the inimitable, charming Tim Pigott-Smith, the charity’s patron, and supported by cultural zeitgeist magazine Open, edited by Loma-Ann Marks (CVTF500 member).

As I arrived at the intimate Almeida theatre I could feel the excited anticipation of the theatre-goers, helped along their way with a glass or two of tasty Courvoisier-infused punch . At 7pm sharp, we took our places in the auditorium and for the next two hours were taken on the most magical journey as A-lister after A-lister entertained us with the passages, poems and music that had inspired them as children.  My own personal highlights were Sir Ian McKellan’s reading from his favourite childhood book (just to see the man in the flesh would have been enough for me, but that voice ….), Richard Stilgoe’s incorrigibly comic turn on the piano including a song made up on the spot from lyrics tossed at him by the audience and Dame Eileen Atkin’s wonderful rendition of Just William and the Just So stories. Dan Stevens, Kate Fahy, Helena Kennedy QC, Pamela Miles, Bill Paterson and Kevin Spacey were pretty damn fine too.  After the theatre performance, we were whisked off to a delicious gala dinner at the nearby Almeida restaurant where Jon Snow led the charge with a brilliant charity auction.  Each and every one of the actors involved takes an active role in Friendship Works and through their touching performances inspired many in the audience to do the same.  I would urge you to take a look too!

Molton House welcomes new CVTF500 members

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Last night saw the blossoming of a new relationship as private members’ club Molton House offered The Courvoisier The Future 500 network (CVTF500) a complimentary annual membership to the venue. To celebrate the new affiliation, Molton House hosted an exclusive soirée for members to come and experience the venue for themselves. The Courvoisier team from Focus PR was there to take part in the action as well, and what an experience it was.

The décor of Molton House was designed by CVTF500 member Tim Mutton, co founder and MD of design company Blacksheep who also designed the interior of Ministry of Sound and the Metropolitan Hotel & Met Bar to name just three. Decked out in lavish fabrics and furnishings, with flawless service and stylishly-dressed staff, it was clear to see why it was awarded the Best Members Club in London at the London Club Awards 2009.

The bar served a selection of Courvoisier cocktails (what else?) garnished with a Courvoisier clip (designed by member Lee Broom) which also made a rather stylish hair clip! The atmosphere was electric, with people scattered around the place eagerly networking with one another and most likely conjuring up new business ventures. The highlight of the evening was a sensory experience with Courvoisier’s brand ambassador Rebecca Asseline. Oozing French style, Rebecca took us on a journey of the senses, spritzing the air with delicious scents of candied orange, iris and crème brûlée. She then asked us to taste our glass of Courvoisier XO and the flavours seemed to explode in our mouths!

Courvoisier Revolutionary Spirit Festival

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

First there was the Courvoisier Architectural Punchbowl, created in conjunction with foodie revolutionaries Bompas & Parr. Then came the Courvoisier Café du Pique Nique experience, brought to fruition by CVTF500 newcomers the Robin Collective, which saw the Future Gallery transformed into a surreal indoor picnic arena.

Hot off the press, we have news of the must-go, must-see sensation of the summer, Courvoisier Revolutionary Spirit 2010. This one-of-a-kind ‘festival’ will see a series of innovative events taking place in London, kicking off on Bastille Day, 14 July. Here’s a taste of what to expect from the Courvoisier Revolutionary Spirit 2010:

• An Epicurean Adventure – The Complete History of Food. A food and drink experiential event curated by Bompas & Parr

• Secret Garden Party 2010, 22 – 25 July. Freddie Fellowes, CVTF500 member and founder of Secret Garden, has invited Courvoisier to create an incredible drinks installation at this year’s extravaganza. Think pedal-powered Courvoisier punch fountains on an awesome scale …
