Maker’s + The Machine cocktail tour continues

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

The Maker’s Mark team were out in force last Friday in the heart of London’s Shoreditch with Maker’s + The Machine, the world’s most surprising bespoke vending machine. The Machine served 320 Maker’s Mark drinks to Londoners giving an unexpected boost to their Friday. Serving a selection of three drinks, Kentucky Champagne (Maker’s Mark and Appletiser), a tangy Maker’s & Ginger (Maker’s Mark and ginger ale) and a classic Maker’s on the Rocks, our hidden bartender surprised more than a few passers-by with the cocktails, which are as handcrafted as the bourbon itself.

Next in store for the Machine is a national tour, so if you want to visit Maker’s + The Machine for yourself make sure you’re in the right place at the right time:

  • London (Islington): Friday 6 May
  • Birmingham: Thursday 16 – Saturday 18 June
  • Edinburgh: Thursday 14 – Saturday 16 July
  • London (Camden): Friday 5 August
  • Reading: Thursday 25 – Saturday 27 August
  • Manchester: Thursday 8 – Saturday 10 September
  • London (Clapham): Friday 7 October

A media event like no other

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Thanks to James Murdoch’s appreciation of the sweet, smooth taste of Maker’s Mark bourbon whisky, Maker’s + the Machine was invited to serve up some scrumptious bourbon cocktails at News International’s Christmas party last week – and what a response it received! Held in the former printing press hall at News International’s impressive site in Wapping, this was a Christmas spectacular like no other. Come 6pm, 3,000 movers and shakers in the media world poured into the hangar, all moving between four extravagantly-themed zones, each devoted to News International’s papers: The Sunday Times, The Times, News of The World and The Sun.

The News of the World area was themed around a pub called the ‘Crooked Cricketers’, displaying huge posters dedicated to the year’s best selling front covers. A Bedouin theme permeated The Sun’s room, with Moroccan floor cushions and incense infusions creating a laid-back mood not usually associated with the sensationalist tabloid, whilst The Times’ colonial club feel provided a successful antidote to the flashing dance floor and decisive beats of the nightclub next door.

The atmosphere was electric as, nestled in the Sunday Times cocktail bar and piano room, Maker’s + the Machine offered up its selection of chilled cocktails to party guests. The delight the Focus PR team takes in the shock on people’s faces when a hand pops out of the vending machine dispenser with a drink (see past blogs if you have no idea what I’m talking about!) will never wane – and when James Murdoch is on the receiving end the enjoyment is that much greater. Thankfully this is the kind of vending machine which will allow for a drink to be returned in order to make it a double!

As guests thronged to entertainment acts such as Westlife and X Factor’s Shayne Ward, and new Maker’s Mark fans were born, there was no doubt that the overwhelming mood of austerity which has pervaded recent years was firmly forgotten, even if just for one night.

CREATING POWERFUL BRAND EVENTS

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

Putting on events which enable clients’ brands to get up close and personal with their target audience is a core part of what we do.  Consumer engagement, brand activation, experiential marketing….whatever you call it, we can deliver cost-effective, newsworthy events which really work.

Thanks to increasing restrictions on the marketing of alcohol, for several of our clients it’s all about combining creativity with a clear head.  Events which educate, entertain and enthuse work brilliantly and we’ve been doing some really exciting work in this area recently.

Our brief from Maker’s Mark was to create an arresting ‘event’ at high-footfall venues and generate editorial while enforcing the message that Maker’s Mark is the uniquely handmade bourbon.

We created a bespoke, visually-stunning mobile vending machine with the strapline Handmade. Worth the Wait. Consumers select one of three cocktails and, unbeknownst to them, a mixologist inside the machine makes up their cocktail to order. Through the opening, the bartender hands the drink to the consumer (his hand visible), resulting in a delightful reaction.  The media loved the concept and we used Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare to drive awareness and footfall.

So far we’ve taken the Maker’s + The Machine activity to London, Leeds and the Midlands and now it’s set to go global in 2011, such has been its success (when measured against other marketing activities for the brand this year, it achieved the lowest cost per % reach, by a huge margin).  What’s more, 2010 case sales are double those of 2009.

Visit our website to see more case studies on events we’ve created, or get in touch if you’d like to talk about what we can do for you.
