Sauza’s great shakes

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Sauza ShakerThis month marks 200 years since Mexican independence and Sauza Tequila has got into the spirit of the celebrations.

The Sauza Shaker is a fun, new alternative to traditional cocktail pitchers and a great way to enjoy the authentic flavour of Mexico. Known as “Nuestro Tequila” – “Our Tequila”, the Sauza Shaker will be available in bars across the country for everyone to mix their own margarita cocktails. For the very first time, you can shake the cocktail yourself when asking for a margarita cocktail. When you order the Sauza Shaker, the bartender will hand you your very own shaker filled with all the required ingredients to make a delicious margarita cocktail for you to shake up and serve at your table.

Each Shaker will serve four cocktails – the perfect amount for sharing with friends – margarita cocktails have never been so much fun!  The national spirit of Mexico, tequila, in a margarita cocktail demonstrates how delicious it can be when in a stylish long drink.

Drinking in good company

We stopped off to meet the lovely team at Company Magazine last week to give them a taste of Mexico with Sauza Tequila. The Easy Margarita and Strawberry and Basil Margarita cocktails were the order of the day for a team tasting just before the bank holiday weekend. Not everyone had tried tequila as a cocktail before but there were definitely some new enthusiasts after trying Sauza as a delicious new long drink! The Strawberry and Basil Margarita was a hit and immediately named the Company Magazine cocktail of the week and it’s no surprise as Mexico’s national tipple is becoming ever more popular and ‘tequila tribe’ bars are popping up all over the UK.

If you fancy knocking one up yourself, here’s the recipe:

Strawberry & Basil Margarita

Essential Method: Muddle

Add 2 shots of Sauza Hornitos Plata Tequila, ½ barspoon(s) Bols Triple Sec Liqueur, 1 shot(s) freshly squeezed lime juice, ½ shot(s) gomme (sugar) syrup, 3 quartered fresh strawberries & 4 leave(s) fresh basil into a clean, empty Boston Shaker Glass

  • Muddle gently together to release the juices & essential oils
  • Fill Boston Shaker Glass with cubed ice
  • Shake vigorously for 12 seconds
  • Using both a Hawthorne & Tea (Conical) Strainer, fine strain into a pre-chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a strawberry half & basil leaf
  • Enjoy!
