Blogger engagement a la mode

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Our vente-privee.com (VP) account team has been very busy over the last few weeks organising a secret blogger mission to the online giant’s Parisian HQ. In order to generate buzz about vente-privee.com in the blogosphere we selected five top lifestyle bloggers to act as ‘secret agents’ to take part in the most exciting mission of the year!

Bloggers were invited to a top secret breakfast briefing meeting in a room at the top of The Gherkin to learn about their mission. Bunty Stokes (UK Country Sales Manager) introduced VP and presented each agent with a mission kit, detailing their task. Each would be travelling to vente-privee.com’s head office in Paris for one full day within the following two weeks – via different modes of transport - to infiltrate and explore a different part of the company relevant to their blog (photo studios, music studios, web design, motion design and sales coordination). Assigned a ‘VP buddy’ for the day, they would learn all about their department, and gain a real insight into what really goes on behind the scenes….

Bloggers now have until midnight on Friday to post their mission report – including as many photos, videos and creative information as possible, to expose the HQ to the British consumers. Blog posts will then be judged on creativity, content and visual appeal – so far they’re looking great!

It’s retail, but not as you know it

Not your average-looking warehouse

There has always been a lot of hype in our office about the vente-privee.com headquarters in Paris; non-stop fashion shoots, designers creating stunning motion pictures, not to mention the amazing collection of original art. Recently I was the lucky one given the opportunity to visit the offices as part of a press trip.

If you’re not already in the know, vente-privee.com runs exclusive online flash sales of amazing brands (from apartments and cars, to fashion and food) with savings of 50-70% off RRP. It’s the original flash sale site and was created in Paris in 2001 by Jacques-Antoine Granjon and co-founders. Less than ten years later, vente-privee.com has 11.5million members across Europe and is on track to turn over £628 million this year alone.

Back to the trip! On Thursday morning we set off on the Eurostar with a selection of hand-picked fashion and lifestyle media.  After our leisurely voyage, we were greeted and taken out for lunch Parisian-style (three-courses!) before undertaking the not-so-arduous task of touring the vente-privee.com offices.  The tour was fantastic and gave us a real insight into how such a mammoth operation like vente-privee.com works.  First we were shown around the brand new ‘digital factory’ where all the photoshoots take place and from there we moved on to see the motion designers who create the trailers and the sound team who produce the music.  We were guided through the process of how a flash sale is coordinated, from barcoding every single item to what happens after a customer has clicked ‘buy now’ and the shipping process begins.  The whole trip allowed me and the journalists to get a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes at vente-privee.com and realise just how much work is put into creating each sale.

It’s great to know next time I order something from the site,  I will know exactly where it is and that it is in very safe hands.

Fashion party is hot hot hot

It’s hard to believe a week has already passed since some of us were donning our gladrags to go to what was billed as the fashion party of the year – the Drapers Awards’ 20th Anniversary. vente-privee.com – our fantastic client and THE pioneer of online flash sales – sponsored the evening, attracting some of the world’s hottest brands under one hot roof at one hot event on one hot (temperature) evening.

Held at One Marylebone, formerly a church, around 700 of London’s fashion elite grouped together under the glow of vente-privee.com pink, sampled canapés served by models in pink and white striped boaters and swapped fashion jargon. We were also lucky enough to have someone who knows a thing or two about fashion, Nicky Hambleton Jones, join in the celebrations and share a glass or two of bubbles with us.
